In 2010, The U.S. Department of Justice published revised regulations implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for pool accessibility. The document outlining the requirements states:
People with disabilities were, for too long, excluded from participating in many recreational activities, including swimming.
While there are a limited number of exceptions to these requirements, newly constructed and existing public pools will be required to ensure that people with disabilities can enjoy community and hotel pools with the same independence, ease, and convenience as everyone else.
At Swimmable.org, we feature the pools that have met these regulations to assist the community in finding places that everyone can enjoy the benefits of swimming.
